Book Swap

Book Swap Program

This is has been put on pause for this year in light of COVID.

The Book Swap was initiated in 2004 by School Council as a means for the students of South Branch to share and engage in the love of reading.  This monthly initiative takes place in the school foyer, and has become a popular event that the children look forward to.

By bringing gently used books from home that the students are no longer reading (because they have outgrown them, or simply because they think a friend or another student might enjoy them), they are sharing the joy of reading with many children.

How Does It Work?

  • Every month, students or parents bring in gently used elementary school aged books or magazines from home and put them in the drop box in the front office when they arrive at school. These items can be from previous swaps or from their home library.
  • Parent volunteers sort and prepare books for the Swap which takes place on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. Teachers sign their classroom up for a time to come - students will be able to take out 1-3 books each visit depending on the amount of books the swap has to share that month.
  • This year, our plan is to make things a little easier for the students, parents, volunteers and teachers by discontinuing the credit system and related paperwork.   Our intention is to focus on the tradition of sharing the love of reading, and we ask South Branch families for your continued support.
  • Every month the parent council will continue to collect, sort and distribute the books that come in from the student body.  There will be reminders for bringing in books from home as in other years.

Remember: Without books there is no Swap!

The School Council is proud to be a part of such a caring school with students who are keen to share and engage with each other through their love of reading.  We are hopeful that the lack of paperwork for all concerned will make this important initiative even more successful and fun for the students.  Happy Reading!
